In a probable robbery attempt, a 20-year-old Texas man was shot to death during a car auction.

The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon in Houston’s northeast suburbs. Kelvin Shepard and a companion went to a property in the Humble neighborhood with the intention of buying a car, according to investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

Two unidentified suspects hopped into the back seat of Shepard’s forest green 2006 Chevrolet Malibu as he and his companion were in it, ostensibly selling the car to them.

While all four of them were in the car, Shepard was fatally shot.

Before the perpetrators fled the scene of the crime, Shepard and his friend were able to flee the vehicle. Shortly later, Shepard was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two suspects are still at large, but police believe they live in the Humble neighborhood where the incident occurred.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about this case to contact them.
